I wasn't aware of there being another "intelligent" way to play power chords

Depends, I usually use index and pinkie. Like when I'm playing Sabbath and Zeppelin, it makes it easier for me to slide. But sometimes I use ring and pinkie.

its like this..

my friend plays it using index middle and ring. i told him to use my method but he said he's used to his way (which i find it kinda wrong)

his playing isn't very good but he don't want to change

Don't force him, just show him. He'll most likely eventually figure it out anyway when it starts to take away from his playing.

Index and ring, with my index laying gently on the strings I won't be stumming to prevent them from ringing if I pick hard.
