I've been trying to diversify my taste a lot recently, and I've realized that I only have a few artists who have women singers. I was just lurking and figured I'd join and ask.

I can only name a few I really enjoy, but am up for any suggestions. I like Tegan & Sara, Joanna Newsom, and Ani DiFranco. It doesn't really matter what genre they are, but I'd prefer folky stuff if possible. Anything that sounds similar to Bob Dylan maybe?

jefferson airplane.
not folky, and grace slick shared the vocals with a guy, but they're quite good.
for bob dylan, check out the album "desire". it's got some great female backing vocals.
i s'pose you could always try joan baez too.

also, if yer into country-ish stuff, check out emmylou harris.

Yeah, I have almost all of Dylan's stuff. Thanks though.

I'll check out the rest in a bit. Probably tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I doubt this is what you are looking for, but Hole has a (mentally insane) female singer, and they are decent.

There were only a few I didn't really care for, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Cranberries, Hole and X), but the rest were great.

Thanks again.

This. Especially the quieter songs and acoustic stuff. Check out We Are Broken and the acoustic version of Pressure.

Definetly The Kills. They are amazing.

The Kills suck.
Allison's old band, Discount, were much better.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

If you like Evanescence check out Lacuna Coil. ("Our Truth" is a good song)

And if you like Paramore, try Versaemerge (vocally they're very similar). (Whisperer, The Authors). And their old stuff is Post-Hardcore I believe, it had quite a bit of screaming, unlike their current stuff.

Eyes Set to Kill? More Metalcore; although the girl only does the clean vocals. (Reach, Heights)

6th Awakening, Melo Death I guess. (Teir)

And The Agonist needs another mention, they're amazing.
