Good list, sorry imgooley. Still hopefully now we won't have 3 lists at the same time. Perhaps next to artists names you could put one or two recommended albums.

Edit: Also just thought you could add genres if it isn't too much trouble, heck I might even help by PMing you genres for a bunch of people if you are too busy. BTW I was doing a quick scan and noticed Scott Joplin, not exactly jazz but the master of jazz's predecessor. Sorry to force so much on you at once like I said I can help if you want.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.

Joe Bonamassa, specifically the You and Me, and Blues Deluxe albums

if you like srv, try srv lite, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, I don't personally like him but quite a lot do,

The Black Keys, seriously.

Derek Trucks last 2 albums have been very blues rock ish

The North Mississippi Allstars

Gov't Mule

and if you aren't already listening to John Mayall, Cream, Blind Faith, Led Zeppelin,Jeff Beck Group, Fleetwood Mac, and all the classics, them as well

Thank you so much for this list, all of you.

I want to start listening to John McLaughlin and John Coltrane, but they both have a lot of records already. Which albums are good starting points?

Thanks.

For John McLaughlin I'd check out Extrapolation, Electric Dreams, My Goal's Beyond, Devotion and Electric Guitarist. Also have a look at Friday Night in San Francisco with Paco de Lucia and Al di Meola.

For Coltrane Blue Train, Giant Steps, My Favourite Things and A Love Supreme are musts. Outside of those Newport '63 and Live at Birdland are two more worth giving a listen. But to be honest you're pretty safe getting most of his stuff.

Can someone recommend me a band that blends jazz, blues, rock and funk? I've been listening to the John Mayer cover of "I don't need no doctor" and really like the blend of styles so I'm looking for something like that...here's the video of the song:

I agree they don't sound the same, but I would recommend Blind Willie McTell who are trying to get into Country Blues or Delta Blues. He is my all time favorite 12-string guitarist.

Blind Willie McTell played Piedmont blues, and blues which was rooted in ragtime and spirituals. He was frankly, amazing. I can never get his/Curley Weaver's guitar runs to sound right.
