This is a thread dedicated to one of the best, no THE BEST, low watt amp on the market currently.

This thread can be used to declare your ownership, share settings, help with problems, convince people on the market for new amps, photos, and pretty much anything else.

Combo Version

Mini-Stack

(^By request of Jezuzfingerz)

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Blackst...746-i1435429.gc

Demo's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQyS...re=channel_page - This is mostly a hard rock demo, never mind all the Marshall heads in the background because he's just playing through the cab.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQjADxog0Es - Just some guy reviewing it, shows some nice versatility.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbmr...feature=related - A guy playing it who also shows how versatile it is, he uses a bunch of different guitars and plays a couple different styles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDFQ...feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i_a...feature=related - Both of these are metal demos without any gain boosts, it has as much gain as most should need and with a boost enough for anything you throw at it.

What type of cabs do you all run it through?

I've had mine since January and i run it through 2 stock 1x10 blackstar 40w cabs. I still have the stock tubes in there too, but as soon as they blow, i'm going to start experimenting.

Hopefully I can also get a new cab, either a 4x12 or 2x12.

Great amp. Had mine for little over a week, very happy with it.

I've got clips of the clean channel on my profile, tell me what you think. There nothing fancy, just a general idea of the sound.

I'll post pics later

Put me in the "will be getting one soon" category. Played one at the local mom-n-pop and I needed a towel to wipe the drool off. What a great little amp!

Yay! I have a Blackstar HT-5!
And to let everyone know, I have used it at band practices, and it did fine. I'm definitely gonna do a few small gigs with it.

How much more gain do you want? I'm a gain junkie as well, and am considering buying this amp for metal. Would an OD boost be enough to send this little puncher over the edge?? The clips on youtube sound pretty darn gainy, so I'm thinking yes, but it would be nice to hear from a fellow gain-monger just what the amp sounds like in person.

Mine is on backorder as well It seems that the head is in stock, but the standalone cab is not in stock. The mini half stack and the cab are both due to be in stock on 6-15, so I'm assuming its the cab that is keeping the half stack backordered. This doesnt make sense to me because I would think an amp would be harder to keep in stock than the cab. Do you guys recommend a 12 inch? or is the 10 inch that comes with the half stack fine? I was thinking of sticking a 10 inch celestion greenback when I get mine.

Got mine feburary!!

Got the head, and a Marshall 2x12 1936 cab.

I reccommend getting the head and a 2x12 cab. not the mini cabs you can get with the head.

awesome amp, really is.

Dude, seriously? It's an over price piece of equipment that's only single channel and is highly overrated.

All this is is utter spam.

It's decent with lighter stuff, but it doesn't have alot of headroom. It start to break up at around 12 o'clock with volume, but you can easily get by clean in your house or at a miced gig.

tbh theres a lot of gain on tap already
and with a decent OD pedal you can get alll the gain you need
it probs does sounds better when its louder but ive only been up to 3 at home

i just wouldnt have a bad monkey with it thats all
not the best of pedals tbh

but try what you like =]

I currently run a ibanez ts-9 and a electro-harmonix big muff through the front to get a nice strong distortion and fuzz sound. Though the effects loop i put my cry baby original, FAB flanger, and a digitech digidelay. Everything runs through it without a hitch.

Is it loud enough for practice/small gigs?

How loud can it get?

Everything maxed through a 4x12 it's barely keeping up with a rock band.

There is no headroom. Get something else if you wanna gig. The HT-5 is advertised as being for the bedroom or the studio (recording) - and that's pretty much all it's good for.

It sounds like what you're going to want to look at is either getting this and having it readily miced to boost the cleans above drums.

I doubt you can though and i don't know your price range so i recommend you get a either another blackstar either from the new series one coming out, an aritsan 15, or the peavey XXX.

1. It's can be as quiet as you want, but the distortion is better when it's quiet if your driving the an OD through it.
2. It has a gain knob as well as a complete second channel for it!

So is anyone else (who actually owns an HT-5) really disappointed with what happens when you plug in an average OD pedal?

I've tried a Bad Monkey and Green Screamer (as well as my LPB-1, which I know, isn't an OD pedal) and can't get anywhere that the amp's regular OD channel can't.

Maybe since the HT-5 uses the preamp from the HT-Dual pedal there isn't much point in trying to push an OD pedal through it?

I'm actually rather happy whenever i plug in my ibanez ts9 tube screamer and electro-harmonic big muff. The muff gives me a nice hendrix and muse sound and the tube screamer gives me nice sustain, letting me play most metalcore.

It may be that i don't use the amps OD channel too much because i personally find it easier to use the stomp boxes. It's easier not to worry about the shared equalizer and i can fine too to my own disires alittle more. I do though wish that the footswitch was like 5 ft. longer.

I want one so badly, i have just enough for the Mini Stack but a lot of people said the they ar pretty bad and im a little scared of 1x10 cabinets. If kind of made up my mind that ill only get it with like a nice 2x12 (an Orange or Mesa would be nice) but because of Aussie prices that would REALLY strain my budget. I figure that it has taken me a very long time to save what money i have so im not going to settle for a 1x10 combo or some ****ty Behringer cab.

Anyone got information i should know for when i can get one (whenever that may be). Also, im a little confused with the tubes in this amp like wtf is a 12BH7 because there isnt even anything in the tube thread about it. And what if you replace the power tube with like a 6L6 or something, would that change the natural voicing and how would that affect the ISF feature.

I only really spent a significant amount of time with the Bad Monkey, so perhaps it's just the one pedal. I found that with the gain turned up anywhere past 0 I was getting major tone suckage. The fullness that I typically get on the OD channel was just gone, replaced by some terrible shrill sound that brought me straight back to the garbage little 15W SS starter amp I had some years ago.

Maybe if I'm happy (the word to describe it in my case is actually thrilled) with the tone I'm getting from the HT-5 I should just forget about the OD pedals. That said, I do really wanna try a Big Muff (again) one of these days.

In the case of the Aussie it might be cheaper to just build your own cab. Surely trees grow in Australia so you should be able to get wood locally without paying the A(ustralia)-typical arm-and-a-leg prices. Then you're just a nice V30 away from having a good sounding cab.

The 12BH7 isn't interchangeable with any of the popular types of tubes. As far as I know there are options for different types of tube but the biggest gains are to be had from getting a 12BH7 from a different manufacturer. Any tube change is going to mess with the amp a little, but since the ISF just alters the parameters of the EQ all the changes should be relative.
