It's hard to gauge really, it depends whether you're going off record sales, audience sizes, legacy, etc etc.

Michael Jackson, Beatles, Elvis.
Oct. 20th, 2009: New guitar AND front row for Mars Volta.

Is that a ukulele in your pants, or did you just rip ass to the tune of "Aloha Oi"?

I met Sonic Youth on June 30th, and Mars Volta on Oct 20th.

Exactly, guys forget about the Beatles. Look at Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin and all the other legends. The Stones? Kiss?

^ Don't be stupid. It's the Beatles with Elvis and Michael Jackson probably rounding out the top 3.

Kiss and Iron Maiden aren't even close.

I recently had a dream that my dad died and my mum spent the life insurance payout on a new Indian dad, who told me to convert to Judaism, even though people usually change religion in September.

What about the Rolling Stones? They've surely had a great deal of success too.

I was about to say that actually. Maybe Aerosmith? but that might be pushing it.

Honorable mention goes to U2. They're one band that's been around for a long time without changing members, breaking up, ect. Pretty remarkable.

Ac/Dc's back in black outsold thriller actually.

so maybe Ac/Dc

No, it didn't. Thriller is still the best selling album of all time.

Anyways, The Beatles and Micheal Jackson, as stated before.

I think the Beatles' success was massively more than it would have been if they hadn't been the first of that sound, even though the Yardbirds, The Who, The Kinks, The Easybeats, they all could've been just as good (k maybe not the last one) but they were a bit late. Still Beatles are good.

Think AC/DC has had the most continuous success, never broken up, still sell out tours in 7 minutes or something ridiculous, their latest album probably not their best work but it still sold better than most new bands did last year, I've never gone a day with the radio on without hearing them, usually 2 or 3 times, and they aren't thought of as daggy now, like the Beatles are sort of by kids.

Ozzy Osbourne is massive, he seems to get by using brilliant musicians to do everything for him and he just sings what they write but I still love him just coz he's OZZY OSBOURNE.

Iron Maiden is big for a band that's never got any radio play, they're like a cult.

Guns n Roses probably has the most success now, just coz they've always got some non-musical chaos going on

AC/DC outsold Michael Jackson, but Back in Black is 2nd behind Thriller. if I didn't know i'd never guess thriller even got in the top 10.

Michael Jackson, his early stuff is amazing.
And Elvis is my biggest guilty pleasure of all time. Movies, music, whatever it may be!
