You disappoint me more and more every day, UG. Discuss possibly the most consistently amazing Metal band of all time.

I know there is a Manilla Road thread.

The closest one I could find is a joint thread for Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road, and honestly, both of those deserve at least one thread for themselves.

All the talk of Manilla Road recently makes me want to check them out more (heard a few songs, can't really remember them). Make me a list of their best albums, but none of that "ALL OF THEM LOLOL" shit because they have, like, 20.

The thing is, they're all good, though!

EDIT: Anyway, I'd say Crystal Logic is a good starting point, was my introduction to the band.

Crystal Logic for sure. The Deluge next. Open the Gates after that.

Everything else after that.

Start with Crystal Logic, definitely. Awesome, awesome band. Wish I'd heard them when I first started listening to teh metuhlz.

Recommend an album for someone that cringes through the majority of Crystal Logic and Open the Gates, plz.

Lately, Invasion has got a lot of plays from me, it's like Manilla Road's Rocka Rolla

Crystal Logic is one of the greatest albums ever, ever.

I love this band more than my penis.

Dreams of Eschaton is easily one of the greatest songs ever written.
#16
So yeah... Manilla Road, Spiritus Mortis and Lord Vicar are playing a gig here aaaaaaaand I'm probably gonna miss it because there's an age limit

You're not trying hard enough then. Just ask someone who already has one. I know a kid whose 14 and can get into bars and drink :/

Come to think of it, my penis should've listened to more death metal.

Too bad I don't know any person with a fake ID, gotta ask around then

Spiral Castle is a good starting point. Gets you used to the nasal voclas of Shelton very quickly. Then check out Mystification. But, seriously, all their albums are different and worth at least looking at, even the lackluster Circus Maximus.

Also, never expect to remember a Manilla Road album right after you finish it. They are one of those bands that you can listen to an album over and over, and still not remember ****, and then you play them a month later and know every song.

Strange.
#22
Aye, Manilla Road aren't really the definition of "catchy"

But there's something extremely captivating in their music

EDIT: That said though, I haven't been able to get the chorus of Mystification's title track out of my head for ages

God damn i love me some Manilla Road.

Even the new stuff is amazing, can't say theres many other bands with that type of consistently awesome releases.
#25
Yeah, Voyager really surprised me when I heard it.

Shelton's more death-metally vocals (eg, chorus of Butchers in the Sea) were surprising to me.

There are some growls on Spiral Castle, but I think they were done by a different vocalist (?)
#27
Hellroadie.

He's pretty decent at vocals. Shelton's gotten old, and he himself said he can't do vocals all the time anymore.
#28
I will sit in a corner and cry when he dies...

MY HEEEERROOOO

They had better find a damn good replacement if he gets in an accident...

Same for Rob Halford...
#29
Hellroadie gets too much flak from some of the longer-running fans (if that makes sense). He's a good vocalist, and not that bad a replacement for The Shark himself.

Anybody else here heard Mark of the Beast? A big departure from their signature sound, but a way underrated album from the MR catalog (even by the band themselves, obviously). It's probably one of the best psychedelic albums currently loaded in my itunes.
#31
Mark Of The Beast was the unreleased second album from 1981, that's why it's pretty different and much closer to the style of Invasion

I personally really like it though, a bunch of great songs, especially Avatar and Triumvirate

Possibly seeing them at Headbangers Open Air this summer, if can manage to score myself a ticket....

Listening to Crystal Logic for the first time right now. Shelton's vocals are a bit odd, but I love his more "growly" parts like in Flaming Metal System. I can tell I'm going to like this band but I probably won't acquire the whole discography.

Except The Shark's vocals are strange. They took me a while to get used to, but they fit Manilla Road like a glove.

You're missing out, The Frayed Ends.
