Somebody was telling me they know an importer that can ship them to me from the U.S. if I order them.

Ordering them direct would cost me ~$500 for a set of pickups, which is ludicrous (even though they're definitely worth it).

I'm seriously considering doing the pickup upgrade on the Studio right now instead of next year, so let me know.

You may want to look at some other USA options.

WCR Crossroads
Seymour Duncan Seth Lover
Wolfetone Dr. V
Peter Florance Voodoo '59s

Even USA is going to rape me in the ass, just not as bad as the Brits will.

A lot of guys on the LPF really like the RS Guitarworks Fralin PAFs. I've never tried the set but they get tons of glowing reviews. They're about $300 USD a set.

How much would something like that cost to be shipped to Canada?

I really like the WCR Crossroads and Betset though and prefer them to BKP mules personally.

That's the same as a set of BK Mules, after currency exchange.

It'll cost the same no matter if it comes from the UK or from the US. Intl shipping has the same brokerage and duty taxes.

The tie-breaker would be whichever sounds better and has cheaper shipping. Oh, and whoever is willing to use the proper postal service instead of those ripoff artists we call couriers.

damn... that SUCKS.

The problem with buying pickups is no matter what, everyone has their own preferences and really can't make any real judgment until you try them, but by then you're money is already spent and you've taken a risk.

By proper postal service you mean USPS right? I know people absolutely hate UPS for shipping to Canada (I hate UPS for domestic shipping), but a lot of USA based winders use USPS.

But unless you're absolutely set on Mules, I REALLY suggest oyu look at Wolfetone. Everyone kind of has their favorite flavor of PAF replicas and will sing praises for whoever wound their pickups, but 1) Wolfetone Dr. Vintages sound incredible and 2) he has a rewind policy, in which if you don't like the pickup, you send it back, tell him what is wrong with it, and he will rewind and tweak it for you until you get what you want.

Oh and everything he sells is 20% off right now, which is about $215 USD. Pretty damn good deal if you ask me...

Yeah, I mean USPS, Canada Post, some sort of national service.

UPS has not only charged me an arm and a leg every time I've Fleabayed something and had it shipped with them, but they also lost IbanezPsycho's ISP Decimator he sent me. It's going on 3 months and they still haven't found it yet.

I'll check out Wolfetone and the other vendors you described. Thanks for the tip.

I tried to email that guy from wolfetone a few questions and he never responded back. I was pretty bummed because I was interested in them, but I could never get a hold of him. I ended up going with bare knuckles and I love them.

Truth be told, they all sound good.

Something I've noticed about all these higher end pickups, I've played very few of them that I didn't like the sound of (there have been ones where they weren't really what I was looking for, but sounded great regardless). You pretty much can't go wrong with any of these makes, but they all kind of have their own sound.

Oh and I'll also add Lollar to the list of candidates, the Imperial is also a great pickup that I absolutely love in every les paul I've ever tried a set in.

I think so, but I'm pretty sure there is like a $15 upcharge or something.

You know, I've heard this from a few people too, apparently Wolfe is one of those guys that you really just need to pick up the phone and call.

Eh???

500 bucks for a pair of Bare Knuckle Mules? That sounds like a lot of money is being spent on middlemen doing nothing.

I thought I had it bad living in Asia.

As al has mentioned, WCR and Wolfetone are ones you can look at. Actually I recall the maker of WCR offer to drive to the Canadian border to hand pickups to a customer before. I can't recall the circumstances though. Rock monkey's on UG as well, he gives a discount to UG members.

Otherwise, have a look at these other pup makers as well. I'm sure there's one that'll catch your fancy and sell it to you for the cheaps...

If it's made in the USA, you don't get an import tax I don't believe, because of NAFTA. So a custom American made pickup should just cost you the exchange rate. I'm pretty sure my WGS speakers are coming in tax free and same with the cab that AB Customs is making me.

My blackbacks are similar to mules and I mark all my international pickup orders as being 30 quid which means no duty and brokerage tax!

Just sayin.

This is correct, and ship international via usps because they don't rape you with brokerage fees

They won't...

I can only recommend Cord's pickups, though - I have a set of a VO Gorilla fist in the neck and a Blackback in the bridge - sounds absolutely awesome! And you pretty much can't beat his prices.

Then I make a new set!

It is very very very rare for insured packages to go missing even if they are only insured for 30 quid. At the end of the day I take care of it so you don't have to.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way 3 years ago when I had my Jackson neck-thru shipped to me from Texas. It cost me $550 with nearly $250 in brokerage charges. Absolutely ludicrous.

I've gone with USPS for US to Canada shipping every time since then.
