Here's the catch: GuitarPros are a must. I can't stand text tabs.

I've been feeling the need to play in drop d, despite me being a standard purist.
But I don't want simple, chord based songs.

As for general areas, my favorite bands are Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Arsis, and The Black Dahlia Murder. (yes, i know that these bands (minus AE and Arsis) often use drop tunings, but I've played their stuff, and I'm looking to expand my tastes.

I've been playing for 5 years, so I should be able to handle anything you throw at me.

I would prefer anything melodic death, if possible. Or Thrash?

If you dont know it yet, play Rage against the machine - Killing in the name.
Really easy though

Angels Don't Kill by CoB is in Drop C, but of course, you can play it in drop D aswell.
Also, pretty much ALL the new work by In Flames is played in a dropped tuning. Don't tune to Drop A# like In Flames does though, just use Audacity or so to change the pitch of the song to drop D.
Current gear:
Carvin CT6M
TC Electronics Dark Matter distortion
Harley Benton 2x12, with Celestion V30s
Laney Ironheart 60w tube amp

I know CoB and in flames play in those tunings. I can change the tunings in guitar pro. I'm just looking for other bands that play in drop as well.

Go for Blackwater Park, by Opeth. One of the greatest songs ever written if you ask me, and it's in drop D. There's also a really good power tab here on UG. Have fun!

it is not impure to use alternate tunings. i have my guitars tuned in standard, down 1/2 step, dropD, dropB and open C major all of which are perfectly valid. it just means you cam play more stuff.

anyway, as per your request, try some Opeth (which is always in standard or dropD as far as i know), Porcupine Tree, Avenged Sevenfold, Audioslave are what i play in dropD. it doesn't really corresond with your favourite bands but its not too dissimilar. Opeth stuff is easy to play but still fun. i recomend Avenged who pretty much sound like iron maiden in the guitars and there's heaps of cool sweep licks to keep you interested.

Machine Head, nearly all their songs can be played in dropped D (allthough their drop down to a B, same just lower)
#12
Why don't you go for Drop C or Drop B? Then you can play those aforementioned bands in their proper tunings.
#15
Real Thrash is always in standard, or half step down (but that doesn't count) its a hallmark of the genre

Because I'm too lazy to adjust my floyd rose for anything else.

AND it's for the purposes of learning, not playing to the correct pitch.

Someone's never used guitarpro, apparently.

And someone doesnt like to use their ears.
Put on a song and play till you get it, if you really want to learn that's what you'll do.

You don't see famous painters using paint by #s books.

Guitar pro and similar are great but its you who mentioned learning.
