You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

#13
Yeah, 12 hours of playing/practicing I can imagine but 12 hours of exercises and scales would be like pushing a drill through my head...
#15
Work and family limit what I'd like to do but I generally practice for at least an hour each day. Sometimes I can get that closer to two but it's not easy.

Which is why you improvise and learn songs too.

That is what I meant by playing/practicing. Playing helps you, but not in the same way as practicing.
#19
Depends how I feel, but most time 1-3 hours a day. But I like to slow things down and at 8 months of playing I feel pretty confident that I'm a average player for people who started around the same time as me.

wow, could you people imagine having that much spare time during the day??
unfortunatly for the rest of us, we have jobs

me, about 1-2 hours if i'm lucky

ps isnt 12 hours too much? shouldnt you stop if it hurts? you could really damage your hands. i'd imagine at some point, after about the 8 hour mark, your fingers would have no dexterity or accuracy, and you'd just be doing more harm than good

If jamming counts as practice, then I play 1 hour only.

I rarely practice now, just learn/play songs or improvise. I haven't the patience to practice at the moment, and the weather has been great so I'm actually going to try and make the most of my summer holidays for once, rather than enclose myself and endlessly play scales and whatnot.
#34
I usually get at least 3 hours in everyday. On the weekends if I have no where to go I'll sit there and play for 6-7 hours.
#35
Do you guys force yourself to play? Cuz it seems so sometimes. I don't force myself to play the guitar. I pick it up whenever i feel like it.

Exact same way with me.

And 12 hours of playing? So he pretty much wakes up, plays, and is off to bed again? There's no rule saying that rockers can't get out of the house every once in a while..
#38
I usually practice between 3-4 hours a day, usually between 10 - 2 at night because it helps me relax after a long day, It makes me feel accomplished.
#39
Like 1 and a half to 2 hours. Anything more than that and I want to throw my guitar out the window plus, 2 hours is more than enough to get good. If you just practice technical stuff for 2 hours, you'll be better than most.
#40
I pick it up when I feel like playing.

I usually don't put it down for a good 2-4 hours though.

I LOVE playing guitar.
