I'm getting into indie bands/artists lately, but I don't know of that many.

Bands and artists I currently listen to (to give you a feel of what I'm into):

-Cold War Kids
-Andrew Bird
-The Dodos
-Beirut (some of his songs)
-John Butler Trio (I guess they count as indie/sort of indie, yeah?)

Basically, anything with "that sound" (you know what I'm talking about) will do. I just need to know what's out there, and Last FM isn't helping much.

Arctic MonkeysNah.
The LibertinesNot sure, I'll have to get used to them.
The Strokes etcHmm, not bad! Maybe a little "poppy" at times but they definitely have some traces of that sound I'm looking for.

Thanks!

To be more specific, I'm a big fan of that "close to home" indie sound (which is pretty much the opposite of "could fit on Sony or WB", while remaining good music. basically, it pretty much sounds like it BELONGS in the "indie" category). The Dodos pretty much own that sound, IMO.

Oh, sorry. I just seen 'Indie' and gave you a few obvious recommendations.

Who mentioned Muse? They're far from 'indie'.
Definitely The Stone Roses.
The Verve are awful though.

I listen to Iron & Wine and Okkervil River sometimes when I'm in the right mood. Good music.

My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Animal Collective, MGMT are some I enjoy.
Oct. 20th, 2009: New guitar AND front row for Mars Volta.

Is that a ukulele in your pants, or did you just rip ass to the tune of "Aloha Oi"?

I met Sonic Youth on June 30th, and Mars Volta on Oct 20th.

My Bloody Valentine is a band I've listened to a few times. They're good, but a little hard to listen to sometimes.

Sonic Youth is good. I used to listen to them last year, and I still love "Karen Revisited".

Animal Collective is pretty good, but I like Panda Bear's solo stuff better.

Can't stand MGMT. Really annoying, in my opinion.

I love their music, but the recording makes me go "HNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGG"

Do they have anything that isn't so lo-fi? I'm usually fine with lo-fi recording (Sebadoh FTW), but I don't think it does their sound justice. The sound of the guitar especially is a bit much. I can tell they're talented as hell, though.
