ok, so now i reaaaaaallllllyyyyy want a small tube amp. most likely a valve jr or a blackheart ht5h. so instead of paying another $160-$200 for a 1x12, i was thinking about building my own. most likely a 2x12. now, ive found some speakers with some nice specs (the eminence 10" red coats ramrods). they are a little bit more expensive than i was looking for but otherwise look great. now, i will have no problem building the actual enclosure. but what i do need to know is:

is there a certain way the cbinet needs to be designed?

what all is in a cab in the form of wiring? what wiring will i need? can someone get me a diagram?

any other speaker suggestions?

thanks in advance!

Yes, it has to be built a specific way.

As long as there is Cheeto's, no.

j/k that thread should cover it. What concerns you?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Might already be known, but unless you're just trying to experiment, go with dimensions for an already well established cabinet.

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

The Vjr is IMO designed for pedals. It gets plenty loud in a home environment. With no pedals it has a lot more character when using a guitar with humbuckers than single coils. But you really want to put something in front whether it's a multifx or a few pedals.

Tell your dad to bring you on by and check it out.

what cab is that? it doesnt look like the stock valve jr cab.

and what are the best pedals for it? probably something that will handle metal well, because that is my main genre...

If you're main genre is metal, I would highly suggest dishing out the extra money for the Blackstar HT-5. The Valve Jr. cannot do metal without a high gain pedal, and by the time you buy a nice pedal for it you'll have shelled out enough to get the Blackstar anyways.

yeah, ive looked at the blackstar. its defiently better for my needs but it costs a bit more and i cant find one used.

$150 for a valve jr w/1x12 cab VS. $300 for HT-5 +~$170 for a home built 2x10...

so the valve jr + a nice pedal is ~ $150 cheaper than the blackstar

but my next choice is deffinetly the blackheart. it has a 3band EQ and selectable 3w/5w. and its only $200 for the head...

See if he will sell the 1x12 cab and not the VJ head. Then go look for a BH or HT5 head used.

I bought the cab and speaker before the Epi Vjr cab came out. I got it from a cab maker advertising on eBay. It's birch plywood and seems like a nice cab.

I'm not a metal guy so can't really comment on how well it does metal. But I think (don't hold me to it) I have an Ibanez metal pedal stashed away and would throw it in with the Vjr. My suggestion is to get a Digitech RP(xxx pick your model) and use that in front. Those RPs seem to have pretty good high gain sounds and the Vjr warms up that digital tone pretty well.

I think it's the same pedal as in this person's profile pic....

so should i build a 2x10 or a 2x12? the price difference isnt that big (for the speakers) and i was wondering if one is that much better than the other. i think the 2x10 will be plenty but i want some more feedback on that...
