I have the option of getting a used peavey Alpha tube bass head plus a beat up cab for $200, or I could buy a brand new Hartke H2500 for $250.

Which would you choose?

I once had a brand new Peavey Alpha Tube Bass Head. It broke up too easily on live gigs so I got rid back to the music store.

If you don't mind some tubey grit to your tone, then go for it. Peavey makes generally great stuff, so I would definitely look into it. If you dig the tone, then go for it, it's a steal.
