So, here in Pakistan, there's a miniseries that began last year, aiming to bring together our classically-trained musicians and those of the more western styles of playing. Initially skeptical of it due to the ever-present coporate influence (coke sponsors it), i was quite impressed with what turned out to be a gathering of the finest musicians in the country, each a master of his (and her) field, with senoir qawwals (folk singers) collaborating with popsters on both new hits and golden classsics alike. That was last year. This year's first episode has been promising (enough for me to share it here) and is already looking to be a big hit.

if you're a fan of eastern beats, have heard of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or just plain curious, i encourage you try out some great music:

Atif Aslam's Jalpari is especially worthwhile.
