I have a Jay Turser guitar (it was my first electric, so it was/is a cheapo).

it went out and it would be cheaper to buy a new one than fix it. And I'm just too lazy.

Anyway my Dad said he would buy it since its so cheap. Whatever.

Anyway, I was thinking should I buy a replacement of the same model? Or get a Fat Strat version of it? Or get a cheap Ibanez or Jackson or something (if they make em that cheap)?

And this will have to last me a few months to 2 years tops. When I graduate college and get a job.

The sound I am going for is jangle-pop meets 80's pop-rock. The amp I'll be using is an Ampeg Gemini (a Deluxe Reverb off-shoot/copy).

What would you suggest?

Going from one crappy guitar to another doesn't really change things. Best to save, but if you only can use $200, look at rondomusic.

if you can save up $100 more, then try an Ibanez RG321.

I havent played guitar for about 2-3 weeks because I hate my Epi Casino so much. I swear man, that things a ****ing lemon. hands down.

and I cant play the Jay Turser b/c it broke. Therefore I cant play, even if I wanted to. So I am wanting something that is at least somewhat decent, for around $200.

An Agile or the Douglas already mentioned in this thread would probably be your best option.

This.

I really don't get how you can hate an Epi Casino (I don't think they're godly but pretty good at least), but if you really do hate it, why keep it around? Sell it and add to the fund.

Or if you want to keep it for decoration for some reason, I support the rondomusic.com recommendation. Look out for Agile's or Douglas's. The SX's on that site are quite good but I really think a heavy duty set-up is needed for those guitars to sound good.

i'd put $100 into getting the casino set up. OR sell both the broken guitar and the casino and see if your dad will throw $200 into that too, and get yourself a guitar thats a bit more decent. selling the 2 you could end up with $400 or better i would think... then you're up to a $500-$600 guitar instead of a $200 piece.

Just cause a guitar is $200 doesn't mean it will be terrible, you can get some good Ibanez, Epiphone, and Squier guitars for that much.

yeah, ibanez makes great beginner guitars. people either love or hate their high end guitars, but their low ends are usually pretty decent. try to play whatever you get before you buy it though, when you're only paying $200 you could end up with less than you payed for.

Whats wrong with the Jay Turser? You sure its not an easy fix?
