Ok, so I'm using a Traynor YCS50 and I want to change the tubes in it to get the most I can out of this thing. I looked on some tube websites and I really have no idea what brand of tubes I should get. I play mainly classic rock and hard rock, bands like ac/dc,zeppelin,boston,guns n roses 70s and 80s rock stuff and stuff like nickelback, three days grace kind of more modern rock. I do sometimes play metallica type metal as well. So my question is, what kind of tubes should i be looking at and what brands are good. Also, does anyone know if this amp is self-biasing or do i need a tech to look at it?

your going to want something with good cleans, that can really be saturated for overdrive and distortion...

something like these, probably medium

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll take a look at those. I forgot to add a budget, I'm willing to spend around 200 Canadian total.

EDIT: Also is it better to put the same pre amp tube in all 3 spots or mix and match them?

Eh, I'd go for EL-34s with the bands he mentioned.

Ruby EL-34BSTRs would be my choice in the power section, with a mix-match of preamps for a more versatile sound (Shuguang, Tung-Sol, JJ maybe?)

The YCS50 must be biased

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Thanks Matrix, I did some more searching on the internet and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with EL-34's.
