Woo! first build!!!

While knowing this will not rival anything of kingnothing's or Kyle's builds it is a guitar I've been wanting to do for a while. I'm aiming for something like this in the design for the neck and body. My budget is $300 USD as that's all I have.

Specs List:

Les Paul Jr.-esque body (wood choice to be decided) stained blue
maple tele neck (not experienced to build one myself yet)
one humbucker in the bridge (most likely an off market dragonfire active)
one volume

Pics/Mockups to be posted soon.

I'm getting the wood this Monday.

Wish me luck .

Sounds good man, you plan on using a LP Jr. pickguard or what? When I read the title, I thought you were gonna use a tele pickguard, wonder how that'd look. Oh well, hope it turns out well.

I think that EMG looks way out of place, I think it'd look more natural with the two-single coil version of a humbucker there personally. Also add a single coil for a neck pickup. I would probably go with the traditional Les Pual mohagony body, maybe with a top wood.

not if he's going to do it under $300. it'll be pretty hard to get a nice top, although I know somewhere where you can get real nice tops for under $20.

and where would that be

also holy-crap thanks for the shop mockups, I think you're right Helbent Revenge, I might stick one of the gfs mean or dream 90's in there.

Thanks for the support, does anyone know how to route an accurate neck pocket and know where to allign the bridge, those are the two things I'm worried about most.

With a build body the bridge is easy. Fit the Tele neck and measure 25.5" from the nut. Plain Mahogany body will give it a warmer tone blend than Maple topped so no worries there. A Wilde rail bucker XL500 pup will give you a nice result without breaking the bank.

not really.

For the bridge placement you need to measure from the nut to the 12th fret, you then double that. What ever that number is thats your scale length.

Say your scale length is 25" you measure 25" from the nut, down the neck and onto the body, that is where the part of the saddles where the string touches needs to go.

You don't have to be perfectly 100% correct as you can adjust the saddles from the bridge to make them shorter or further away from the nut

I've got wood!

Nice amount of mahogany for fifty bucks, two pieces for the body and a leftover tester piece for the stain.

Now i need to clean up some splinters, and glue the two pieces together, lets hope my dad has some clamps that are long enough for this.

Well, someone ammoungst (I know i effed that word up) you all here has experience in the hardware/lumber business, let me enlighten you on WOOD GLUE:

Titebond I: Indoor wood
Titebond II: Outdoor wood
Titebond III: BOTH!, I believe it costs more because of this

Now for a simple guitar/bass build, I would imagine type 1 is all you would need, but I guess any and all would work.

yes they will all work, its just that original works best. Its just plain wood glue no waterproof and all that crap.
#30
, anyways

Tomorrow it'll be time to clamp her up. I'll have enough time to lacquer my bass and then we'll see what happens. I'm thinking maybe a different color would be better? I dunno. My sg is red, strat is clear to show ash, and bass is blue. Howabouta green stain? and I should now after thinking about the clean sound probably add a tone control, switch, or something.

Hmm anyone know of a way to add a switch to boost bass frequencies?

Original is best because it is not waterproof and therefor sets firmest.

Because drummers owe everyone money?

Actually, I owe my drummer $15

And another friend I owe $10

I sold him World of Warcraft after playing for a week and figuring out it sucked, well I sold it for 30 bucks but that was three months ago and he agreed to interest.

Now that I think about it, all my band members owe me money. The the other guitarist owes me 60 cause he broke my laptop screen and the bassist 80 due to bets and what not. Damn hooligans.

glad to see your not building a pine guitar like the arlo west video you posted. I know everyone likes titebong but what about system 3 epoxy. its used in korean instruments a lot since it holds 10,000 Lbs per square inch. fills in for the mistakes and prevents crappy koreans from falling apart later. on the other hand, I intend to use it on my neck through build which is, I'm hoping, a very high quality instrument. I figure if epoxy fretboard makes a fretless bass sound good it can't be all bad.
