Why does everyone think they have to play thousands of notes per minute to be a good guitarist? I dig that it can be done but why so many notes?

It sounds exactly like the name says: warm-up exercises. It is pure speed playing of scales with no emotional content.

I call stuff like this the "crowd wower". Yeah it has no soul to it, but its still not easy and it makes people in the audience go "OMGZ!!1!1!1!!"

unless its a audience of guitarists then the crowd goes "meh"
