Don't most musicians write their own songs?

I've always wondered this as well. Usually when I solo, I compose something that compliments the voicing of the solo itself

find bits you like on guitarists you admire and learn them. thats what i've done to a high degree with rory gallagher.

well if you havent already, look up the solo to freebird. it has a bunch of repeating licks in there that are used a lot.

hmm... u can solo, but u can't write a simple riff?...

anyway, the easiest thing u could do is grab some little bit off of the solo and use that as a repeating riff.
