you're calling your friend an idiot, while you bought his starcaster...
sex, drugs, and rock and roll have turned into aids, needles, and techno..

lol we're gonna need more information than that to make a judgement:

what condition is it in?
what hardware does it have on it?
what electronics does it have?
etc...

a picture would be good ;D

how difficult is it to build your own guitar?

It's hard, annoying, and makes you want to punch a baby.

well its just the body and neck so I can make it all from scratch and BTW I bought it for $15 Good deal for a fixable guitar.
#11
You mean you aren't doing anything from scratch because the body and neck are already built.

Well what you do with it is entirely up to you. If you want to do something with it, come up with an idea instead of wasting all of our time.

We have guitars to build, and we have ideas for them, not for you. Come up with something you want to get done and we'll help you do it.

Other than that, this thread is kind of useless.

Assuming the neck is straight (useable!), you could learn a lot about guitar with that $15 purchase. Because most Startcasters are "good" at best, you can start learning about doing a proper set-up. Pay attention to the bridge saddles and nut (you'll probably need to replace this to one better than cheap plastic.

Dress the frets ... lots of info just by Googling and condition the fretboard (Rosewood with Lemon Oil).

Buy a $15 soldering kit from Radio Shack and learn to solder/de-solder. Upgrade the pots and switch while you're at it.

Buy some inexpensive PUs from Guitar Fetish.

Shield all the cavities and replace the wiring with shielded wire ala Gibson (cheap upgrade).

Re-finish the body with vintage Fender colors.

Good Luck!

Exactly what i was thinking.

Starcasters are good for modding. like cheap projects just for fun. Buy a mirror pickguard and black nickel or cosmo black hardware and black pickup covers, knobs, and switch. That is killer. Go to guitarfetish for all the goods. Cheap stuff.

yeah it's black and i have a black pickguard and I'm gonna wire it with hss and use a master tone and volume so the third pot can be for coil splitting.
