Hey

I've noticed a lot of people I know "paying tribute" to Michael Jackson, calling him a legend and such, despite never listening to his music. It's annoying.

Do you think people will annoyingly praise MJ based on little knowledge of the person or the music, similar to how people do with Dimebag and Hendrix and many more.

If there is already a similar thread then humor me.

There are two types of people in the world: those who don't know what they're talking about, and those who overgeneralise.
#4
To put it simply: yes.

But the more important question is: Who cares?

Edit: Also, I challenge you to find someone alive today who is more famous throughout the world thatn MJ.
Check out my band Disturbed

On a more serious note: Michael Jackson was very talented and he deserves his status of legend.

you'd be surprised how iconic MJ was. 90% of people who have experienced music will have heard at least one of his songs.
He was also extremely influential.

there is this kid in my class who has never talked about micheal jackson, but as soon as he died the kid started emailing everyone about how he "mourns for him" and "how he didnt deserve to die".

I don't get why it pisses you off that people are paying their respect. Fair enough that many people wouldn't have taken time to listen to his music, but the fact that they're paying their condolences to the family is surely a good thing? Instead of being annoyed, you should be grateful that more people will experience his music and thankful for what he's made!!
On a side note, I saw a hench tribute to him at Hard Rock Calling yesterday. Rudy Vaughn did a mean cover of Beat It
Oh my yes
#21
Who are you to say what Jackson meant to any particular person? I've been devastated by his loss though I haven't listened to him lately, as a kid he meant a lot to me for a long time. It holds a different significance to everyone, and if somebody is bandwaggoning then who the hell cares? It may be annoying, but that's life.

In fact, TS, I find you annoying for being so presumptuous.

Quite frankly I think the whole thing's a load of ****.

Anyone from Australia would know of The Chaser's Eulogy Song...For those who don't these pranksters basically made a song about people who were hated being treated like legends after death...

Before he died he was a child endangering pedo...now he's a legend...ffs - this **** is ridiculous.

Well, MJ was already legendary before he died. His death, if you ask me, did not make him any more iconic. The truth is, he had (probably) passed the top of his game (even though we will never know now because there will not be any new concerts).
