Hey Folks,

Don't know how many hits I'm going to get here but I currently really want my guitar to have that aged look and wondering if anyone has any tips on doing it? I faintly remember someone talking about leaving it out in the rain or something but i feel rusting could become a serious factor..

The guitar is a 4yr old black Squier Stratocaster with six band stickers on the front.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Do you have a nitrocellulose finish?

If not, you won't get the aged look that everyone likes.

Also, wrong forum.

drop it a few times get some dents on the go, then get some light sandpaper and sand off a few bits...

either that or let it age naturally.

If you age it now, whats it going to look like in 20/30/40 years when it really has aged. And if you plan on selling it before then, nobody is going to pay much for a beat up squier.

No one's going to pay much for a Squier in perfect condition either.

let it age naturally perchance?
trying to force that look with having it refinished could cause some damage to the likes of intonation and the electrics etc.

this. I don't see why people desire that look.. It looks a bit crap IMO

You could get some extremely light sandpaper and have a go at it but I'm not guaranteeing positive results.

Stub lit cigarettes out all over the body.

This could produce positive results, or maybe a clothes iron.

Then do some ultra fine sanding, to get rid of any ash etc, and wax it like you were doing a good cleaning?

Paint it another color lightly on top with cheap hardware store spray paint.
Then go at it screw drivers and stuff, then sand paper.
and you done!

The key is to not worry about it and just go for it.
Who cares if you mess it up, it's supposed to be messed up!

I just had an incredible idea..go buy an old, used guitar at a pawn shop!
