That isn't really that funny....

UG is not a search bar, wikipeida has ALL the info about the FR system anyone could want. Don't condone this practice.

It's a type of floating bridge with a whammy bar attached.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Rose

I can't stand them, personally. I haven't dealt with one in about 10 years, but they were just bothersome (granted, I was new to guitar then). Too many pieces, such as locking 'clamps' on the nut; and they're pretty hard to tune (if I remember right, you tune with the fine tuners on the bridge, and not the pegs on the headstock).

I guess it's a good system if you need a floating bridge, I just don't think they offer much.

A Floyd rose is a floating bridge for guitars (meaning- there's nothing supporting it underneath). They come with these tune locker things that cut off the head stalk from the rest of the guitar. So when you use the bar the guitar doesn't go out of tune like with a traditional tremello bar. The negatives are that its hard to use non-standard tunings on the guitar and if you anchor your wrist too firmly on the bridge, the tone gets sharp.

I learned guitar on a Floyd Rose and its pretty frustrating. I recommend them to players with experience.

What? It's not like this thread has gone anywhere, just a couple of posts linking to various wiki sites with their opinion.

Wow, so much wrong information in this thread.

(if I remember right, you tune with the fine tuners on the bridge, and not the pegs on the headstock).

Floyd Rose is a kind of tremolo system invented in the late 70s by a guy named Floyd D. Rose. He wanted a system that you could do crazy tricks on and stay in tune. The design he came up with was popularized by Eddie Van Halen, and then later players like George Lynch, KK Downing and Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest, and people like that. Any time you hear someone do some crazy tremolo effects like divebombs, they're usually (but not always) using a Floyd Rose or a knockoff of it.

search bar it
still can't find it you're doing it wrong

that said plenty of way better information out there that are fairly reliable and like halo71 has stated their are misinformation on the boards
#15
Sorry but a Floyd Rose is not just a floating trem, it can be set up both ways by sitting flat on the body also.
