I can get the Valveking 212 combo amp for $640 USD shipped. It'll be brand new.

However I just found an awesome deal on a 1984 Marshall JCM 800 100W 212 combo amp. I can get it for $600 + $75 shipping.

Which do you think is better? It's a little over my budget but I can splurge if I'm getting a really good deal. Thanks!

P.S. I mostly play alternative (The Strokes, Bloc Party, Jet), punk (My Chemical romance, Taking Back Sunday, Blink 182) and instrumental rock (Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai).

From what you play, Valveking. The JCM 800 is only really good for metal and old school rock.

JCM are really good souning amps, and from what I've heard, the older they are, the better they are. I

JCM for sure, as long as it's in good condition.

Hell, even if the toltex is ragged and the tubes need replacing, you're still better off with it.

That's the only pic he gave me. This is the specs list he gave me:

100 Watts
2 x 12" Speakers
Reverb
Clean and distorted channel
Footswitch and power cable included
Direct injection output with level control

Is it legit?

its still a vintage marshall from the 80's, where the JCM's tone shines. dam if i had a deal like that i would pay immediately given the condition was good

get a pic of the speakers so you're sure they're original, and if he can a picture of the wiring. Just make sure it's legit.

The 800 chews the VK up, spits it out and then stomps on it.

No, it does not.

Actually I just found another guy selling this amp and it does have one.

JCM 800 2x12 Lead 4211 model, featuring 2 channels, clean and crunch, effects send and return and an additional speaker output, plus controllable DI output.

It looks exactly the same as the amp I'm buying, so I'm pretty sure its got an FX Loop.

The 212 Valvekings are a little overpriced, especially since you need to buy TWO quality 12" replacement speakers to get rid of the muddiness. They're still excellent amps however.

Still, get the JCM. It's a great-sounding amp.

The JCM is a class up from the VK. So, JCM. I played a 2203 (100 watt 1 channel), and it was pretty awesome, tbh.
