I don't think there's any set time. I have a friend who can write great songs on the spot, others... not so much.
Whenever you feel your song is finished and there's nothing more you want to do with it, it is.

depends on how good you and your band are at performing. Sometimes I record a drummer who can play perfectly with a click track within three attempts from start to finish, the rest of the time we might just do takes that are more involved and have more fills. with that said sometimes you also come across drummers who are quite lacking in their timing.

guitarists pretty much need to double track most things, so it depends on how well you can play in time, as well as how well you can play the exact same strumming sequence and stuff like that... theres also the bassists parts, vocalist, piano... random ambient noises... and whatever to record.

after all that there is the mixing and mastering process... so a fair bit.

i guess i dont know much about recording. I just sing and play. Then i send it to my drummer and he adds his stuff then sends it back to me. I dont know what click track. I need to learn more about recording. i want it to souind perfect.
