I found a modded Epiphone Valve Jr. Half Stack on Craigslist for $200. Cab has an Eminence Lady Luck speaker, there's a new MPS output transformer, changed caps and power resistors, and a new JJ EL-84 and Mullard 12AX7, a new tone knob, bright switch NFB on a 3-way with a cap lift and a standby switch. Also a built-in attenuator.

I'm aware it's 5 watts but I'd only use it for practice and jamming, no gigs or anything (and I can mic it if necessary). It sounds like an amazing deal to me for $200 but is there any apparent catch? Obviously I'll try it before I buy it but is there anything I should know beforehand that the seller might not tell me?

Well, just keep in mind you're not gonna get metal tones out of it.

and $200 for a modded VJ halfstack seems good to me

If you have a place you can crank it then it sounds like a great little amp for your needs.

I think thats a pretty good deal as well. There is an unmoded VJ head on my local CL for $125. Was thinking about picking it up myself.

It won't do for gigging, but it'll do for practice by yourself and a bass player.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Ironically, I'm meeting up with that guy tomorrow lol
Mendota-Aurora right?

Edit:
Guess you'll have a better purpose for it though. I was going to just mod it again
Comment me if you're going to go for it, so I can tell him to just work with you if you want.
