Hi guys,

I am new here, and would like your help. I have a Jay Turser JT-180 guitar and a Vox AD15VT amp to go with it. I do not know much about electric guitar, like pedals and such or mostly anything for that matter outside of the guitar. YES, I read the introduction listed here, but I would like to know what sort of equipment you guys would suggest to just practice/mess around with for a beginner. I am a music education major in my 4th year, so don't be afraid to use technical music terms. I can play guitar somewhat already, but electric guitar is a whole different world to me, so any suggestions, please explain them to me.

EDIT: I am curious what you all think of the guitar above as well.

You don't really need any more equipment to get started. Just plug in the guitar, crank up the amp, and play.

It was the only task I would undertake...

I understand, and that's what I do. But I want to use some more, like pedals and other stuff, I just have no idea where to start.

Definitely, Guitar Center is not far. I just always feel like such a noob when I walk in there.

That vox amp will be just fine no worries, basically you should be looking at getting:

a nice distortion petal for a start (make it go GRRRR)
Wah pedal (for porn groove hendrix stuff or solos and such)
Some good quality leads (because buying new ones sucks)
A large supply of picks (I'm talking 30-40, because you WILL loose them)
Guns N Roses Greatest hits (coz it's fun to shred to)

Happy shredding

Apart from the Guns N Roses , get some Gary Moore songs , to learn the blues
The wah pedal, only if you want to.

And hell, if you're organised enough, you won't need 40 picks. I keep mine all in a treasure shaped box thingy, and hardly ever lose any

That Vox amp has several effects on it. No need for pedals. Mess around with them.

^^this

Modeling amps don't sound so good with other effects. That's why they have effects built in.
DOESN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT RON WILSON

get lessons. your gear is fine for starting out. maybe get the guitar set up, intonated etc, or do it yourself.
