You traded him a sword for the guitar? You do realize that a smart person would just agree to the trade, take the sword, slay you with it, keep all of the loot and call it a day, right?

....What are they teaching you kids in school these days?!

Lots of mids, pretty flat treble/bass, pull back the gain and then turn the volume to 10.

On a serious note, I found a pretty nice Dead Boys sound a few days ago with this:

Treble: 7/12
Mid: 12/12
Bass: 6/12
(Clean) Channel Volume: 8/12
Master Volume: 12/12

But this thread is pointless because

a) The sound of amps varies very widely
b) There's no such thing as "punk settings."

I hate when amps go to funky numbers like 12. Why not just keep it simple for the rest of us and keep it 10? After all both are just fraction equivalents to 1.

I'm so punk my amp doesn't even have no settings. Only an aftermarket volume knob.

umm... This thread is pointless, but I usually have the gain about as low as it goes and max out everything else. Sometimes I'll move the gain up to 2 or 3.

Unless I use my metal muff, in which case, everything goes down to about 7 to handle the intensity that ensues.

Yep, those are the best settings to use for any skrewdriver song.

On my overly warm Vox I use -
Treble: 10
Bass: 4
Mids: 10

or, if I'm lucky enough to have a presence control too, and a less warm amp voicing:

Treble: 7
Bass: 7
Mids: 7
Presence: 7

Here's my settings with a Les Paul through an '82 JCM 800

Bass: 5/10
Mids: 8/10
Treble: 10/10
Presence: 4/10
Preamp Volume: Depends on the Master Volume. At low volume I'll turn the preamp to 10, but once the power tubes start breaking up I back it down to 4.

On my Crate VTX 212:
High: 8-9/10
Mid: 8-9/10
Low: 7ish/10
Gain: 4ish/10
Volume: where ever, it doesn't really affect the tone since it's a SS amp.

On my Blues Junior, I really only play Against Me type stuff as far as punk goes. Without an od/distortion it just doesn't have the balls for anything heavier. For that I use:
High: 8/12
Mid: 8/12
Low: 8/12
Reverb: 2-3/12
Preamp volume: 5/12
Master volume: 3ish/12
If I have to turn the master up significantly more I'll back off the preamp volume a little.

Whats wrong with Skrewdriver?

I guess the "Commie Killer" obviously would love a bunch of boneheads who make terrible music.

Seriously, even when they weren't singing about "killin' jews and n*ggers" they were f*cking terrible.

The only reasons anybody says they like their music pre-racism are:

1. They want to sound super knowledgeable about all things punk so they like to point out that they started as a non-racist band.

or

2. They're a racist piece of sh*t that just uses the first album as an excuse for why the band Skrewdriver shows up on their iPod.

Best punk tone I've ever heard was that of the guitarist for The Young Canadians. Could only be described as "skronk". Listen to I Hate Music for the full experience.

the best punk setting is

treble-0
mid-0
bass-0

lol

That's actually pretty close to what I use now. Doesn't sound too bad... well, through headphones anyway.
