My family just got back from a tour of the new elementary school that my sister will be going to. Everything was great except for the fact the classrooms don't have windows. There are no windows in the halls or in the rooms. Only ones in the school are at the front of the school and in the administration area.

Though the whole tour every adult was whispering about it but never asked the guide about it. At the end I ended up asking and he replied with "well, It's not really a big deal. It helps the kids focus on the work." I GUESS I can see that... But what about the possible psychological effects? 7 hours a day, 5 days a week in a room with no windows. Not to mention the safety. If there is a fire in the hall how do you get out?

How freaking dumb is my school system for allowing this?

my school had many rooms inside the complex with no windows, either. it's not really a big deal

as long as they've got AC, it's fine.

This is a public school.

I know its not that big of a deal for high school, but this is an elementary school. The kindergarten kids are going to go crazy.

Well that sounds boring. Is this a public school or some weird private school?

theres not a chance in hell that would be a private school. private schools are nicer than most colleges. it sounds more like N.Korea or a 3rd world country to me

thats terrible i feel bad for those kids.

what happens during a power outage? generators i suppose? but that would be some darkness for a minute O__o

I don't think there was a single room in our school without windows. that must be weird. A lot of the corridors didn't have windows... obviously.

that's stupid and possibly illegal the windows in my school never opened full but if there was a fire all you had to do was kick the frame and it would open for a fast escape shame they never told us to use it incase of emergencies or on the stupid fire drills

That's what the Jehova's witness church down the road from me looks like.

it'll be interesting when a tornado comes

Why? You just need the structure safety. Having windows open/closed during a tornado is a myth, the high winds shatter them anyway.

Most schools around here don't have windows... I didn't know that was weird? My high school now has them, but that's because like 90% of our lighting comes from outside lol

My high school didn't have very many windows. Some classrooms did, and that was enough. In the last couple of years, though, I started to take notice of it and got increasingly bored with my schoolwork.

Making my surroundings boring just makes me bored, rather than influencing me to concentrate.
