I normally play finger style but I have been trying to learn pick so I can be good at both. I was playing some Green Day stuff and the first three fingers where I grab my pick are really numb.

You are gripping the pick way too hard. You need to relax your hand, wrist and arm and loosen up the grip on the pick.

I was told this about fencing, and found it useful for most applications- grip like it's a baby bird- too hard, you kill it, too soft, it flies away.

Humanity is exactly right. Have a firm hold on the pick but way less pressure than what you have now.
