Look for the lessons here on UG, and also in the sticky.

Guthrie Govan and Frank Gambale are probably the some of the better known econ pickers around so check them out on youtube, I thnk Govan has a lesson on picking where he mentions it as well as alternate picking.

I thought he said it in a video that he isn't able to do it because it messes with his rhythm.. I could be wrong though.
I've heard it both ways

I use it all the time for my picking, it really helps with speed and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't affect the rhythm once you learn it rigth.
