I'm Surprised no one has made a thread on this yet.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8127050.stm

So I assume we will no longer have the pirate bay tracker in a month or two. I also assume that many are not bothered by this as they will use sites such as mininova or btjunkie. I for one however will miss the pirate bay as it provided a secure feeling enviroment (unlike btjunkie which, to be fair, does feel a bit dodgy) for downloading torrents and had thousands upon thousands of uploads.

Half the money GGF will pay for the site will be in cash and the remainder in shares in the company.

Probably so they can bury it in a chest on some island.

That really sucks, man. I loved that site :'(
Pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the f***ing car.
I love pulp...
Someone told me there's a girl out there
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair...

I will find this girl.

why would anyone buy the site =S ? they're paying £4.7 million for it? then they're going to pay for all the films and music on there? do they expect to make money form it in the future? cause people will just use other sites to download stuff for free, they won't pay to download

Depends... with how unreliable torrent speeds are, I know that some people would be willing to pay per download just for the speed. Not to mention the fact that it will most likely be monitored for quality a la Napster.

Sure, people can download the stuff illegally for free, but look at all of the people who subscribe to iTunes and Napster. It's just more competition in the digital distribution world.
