This may seem like an obvious question, but can you connect an external preamp to a bass combo amp just through the amp's input, like an effects pedal? Thanks

Yes, but if your combo amp has an effects loop you should put it in the preamp out or pwr amp in...I can't remember but I think it's the preamp out one.

you would plug it into the power amp in. It doesn't mean that that's where you plug a power amp into the amp. that's where you would plug in to go straight to the power amp.

I wouldn't suggest running it into your preamp in. I once ran a preamp out on an amp directly into another amp's normal input...I blew something in the preamp of the second amp.
