I watched a little girl cartwheel along in the lawn
bouncing like an elastic band without end
such ease, such ease... there wasn't a burden
on her knobby little shoulders
as she hopped over to climb a tree.

When she ran over, I gave her a popsicle -
a simple token of friendship and yet
the sparkle in her eye from the
artificially-flavored orange ice
showed the utmost satisfaction.

Last night, I danced into my bedroom and
ignored my aching back and giant hips.
My lover didn't spot a thing, so I playfully climbed
into our mountainous bed.

I offered him a cookie and he scowled -
'What's gotten into you today?
You know I'm diabetic and
there's no eating on the bed.'

We took our medicine and slept.

When I saw that, I thought of musical notes.... my elementary school teachers taught them as "tee-tees" "ta-tas" and a bunch of other nonsense....
