Hi!

Anyways, here's the deal. I'm blasting my music, and theres a problem with my stereo. It's not a real expensive one, it's like a 5 CD disk changer deal.

So, here's the problem. When I connect the right speaker wires to the right speaker outlet on the console, the right speaker doesn't work. I countered this by connecting both speakers to the left speaker outlet thing.

But, I don't get the sounds that come out of the right channel, only the left out of both speakers.

tl;dr- Is it safe to open up my stereo and see whats wrong with the speaker wire connector things? Or will I get shocked.

Unplug it, you should be fine. I highly doubt there's any tube capacitors in there

If you unplug it you'll be fine.......unless its tube powered in which case decharge the caps and stuff......which I doubt the 5cd changer has tubes and huge caps.

How do I tell if it has tube capacitors?
It's a cheap stereo thing, but it has a really nice sound. :/

it almost certainly won't have serious caps in it if it's cheap, no matter how nice the sound, if you're worried earth yourself with one of the wrist earther thingies, if it just a jack problem you should be some distance from any serious caps anyway.

It doesn't matter how big the caps are. That thing is SS and when you unplug it, the circuit drains itself because SS devices continue to conduct. Tubes stop conducting when the cathodes cool off, which is why the caps don't fully drain in tube circuits.

In other words, unplug it and go to town.

This is terrible advice. If this thing was tube, TS would be in trouble.

If he earthed himself and it wa tube, I'm pretty sure this would kill him.

earth yourself with one of the wrist earther thingies,

Yes, that's right. In the event that there may be a high voltage discharge, make yourself a part of "the path of least resistance", that way, it will only be your wrist that gets horrible burns.

After all, that is what they are made for; not for discharging Static build up from your body, to safeguard expensive components...like some people think.

Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Seriously, I doubt doive thought it was funny. I used to have stuff like that happen to me, when I was still new here and thought I knew more than I actually did. Made me feel pretty ****ty.

Google it

You basically hook a fairly powerful ceramic resistor up to the cap in question (holding said resistor IN THE MIDDLE with GROUNDED needlenose pliers while you stand on a rubber pad).

Let me Google that for you
