No... sorry to disappoint, but no amps this time...

As some of you may know, I had a Fender Lonestar Strat a while back which I traded for an Epi Les Paul + Cash... Well, nothing against the Epiphone, it was actually an awesome guitar, if you're in the market for a nice Les Paul, definitely check out the older Korean ones, just be prepared to change out the pickups. Anyway, I traded that for an '86 MIJ Contemporary Strat on Father's Day:

She had a few battle wounds, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a 23 year old guitar.

System I Tremolo - Actually really cool. Similar to a Floyd/Khaler, made by Schaller for Fender. Nice tuning stability, and an odd locking mechanism, which was BEHIND the nut. You can also string these like a regular Fender trem, no need to cut the ball ends off of strings. Doesn't quite have the range of of a Floyd, but there's a certain point where it's not really needed anymore... mostly when the strings start flopping around on the fretboard

Quick Review:

I actually liked this better than both MIA Strats I had before (the Standard and Lonestar). The feel of these guitars are awesome, the neck is finished in black, but it's fast. Strats feel nice in my hands, but are just missing something, this Strat solved whatever that was.

It also had a Duncan Invader installed at the bridge, it didn't sound that bad, but even after raising the height of the pickup, I couldn't get the output I wanted out of it... weird.

Long story short, I loved the feel of the guitar, but Strats just don't sound "right" to me, at least for my styles. So, I traded it for this:

Is that an Ibanez I see?

7 Strings!?!

Hells yeah! Ibanez RG7620 baby.

Now, having only really played Schecter 7 strings, I thought the neck was a little too thick for my tastes (eventhough their 6 strings are almost perfect), so I figured the thinness of an Ibanez should even it out... boy was I right!

This thing ****ing owns. I've never really played 7 strings, other than fiddling around with them at Guitar Center every now and then, but it's almost as if the string spacing is wider (which it isn't... compared to my other guitars... it looks like it's smaller). I can play MUCH more cleanly on this thing and it brings teh br00t@lz without effort. The neck feels great and it has a LoPro Edge, which I LOVED on my 3120.

Definitely would recommend this thing to anyone, I don't even feel much of a difference at all changing from 6 string to this. Only thing I'll probably end up changing are the pickups, stock Ibanez pickups always sound too weak to me

On a side note, the guy I traded with sent the guitar in JUST the hardshell case, which was taped closed. I didn't even know FedEx would except it without a box around it. I fully expected to open up the case and see that the neck had snapped in half, there wasn't even anything inside the case to secure the neck and body!

Yeah man, the Korean LP was pretty sweet, my Edwards has a bit faster neck, but the Epi was way heavier in comparison. I think my Edwards weighs around 8 lbs, the Epi must've weighed somewhere around 11lbs. It wasn't a lightweight, that's for sure One thing that's nice about the 7620, this thing is crazy light.

And yeah, I really liked the color scheme of the Strat, I just knew I wouldn't keep it long because there's just a tonal quality about Strats that I don't like with distortion, and there's no way I'm keeping a guitar around just for its clean sound

Yeah I get what you mean with Strats, maybe its the maple and the brightness that comes with it. Thats why I'm GASing for a LP to give me a real beefy overdriven sound.

Can't keep the Strat for cleans though, at least for me.

Yeah most LP's I've tried are ridiculously heavy, 11 lbs. is pretty dam crazy.

I don't know I'm starting to think I might go PRS or something because they have really small neck profiles, which is extremely desirable by me.

Goddamn small hands.

Yeah, I dunno what the deal with Strats are. I think it's just that I'm not a fan of Alder or Ash, I've never had a guitar I really liked with either of those body woods

My Edwards is pretty much perfect weight, for me at least. Around 9lbs is considered the "best" weight for the classic Les Paul tone.

I dunno man, I tried a PRS Custom 24 the other day. I'd been GASing for one for a long time, and after I played that, I no longer have GAS IMO, the Music Man Luke I played before it sounded better and played better. The Cu24 was extremely bassy with the Dragon IIs in it, and was $3800

I didn't care for the one PRS I played either (Custom 24 I believe). Although, I was playing through a Mesa Boogie F50, which I didn't spend enough time EQing. Everything sounded muddy =/ On top of that, it had the sticky finished neck that I hate... and the body felt awkward.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.

Yeah, that was another problem, the neck finish felt weird to me, though I'm used to playing with necks like it. But I agree, it sounded really muddy and I was playing it through a VHT 50/CL... I dunno, just not what I'd expect from a guitar that cost that much

Next time I'm trying a Singlecut again, I remember liking the last one I tried quite a bit, but still, not worth the price they cost new.

Yeah, they're expensive. They have pretty bad resale though, you can get a decent condition Cu22/24 for around $1500.

I think I paid $700 for my Edwards with a case. It was only 2 months old though, so basically brand new.

Wow thats actually pretty decent for a PRS, funny how sometimes the really expensive things have the worst resale value.

Thats pretty good, and they come with a JB in the bridge and '59 in the neck standard?

Well considering thats about as much as buying Epi LP standard and putting those in thats a pretty dam good deal.

How do you like JB and '59 in it?

It depends what model you get. I have the E-LP-92SD and it comes with those pickups, some come with Duncan Distortions, others come with Antiquities, and others come with EMGs.

The JB is my favorite pickup I've used so far. I'm not really a fan of any neck pickup, so I don't really like the '59 haha.

Yeah, I bought the Edwards without trying it and I'm glad I did. Basically, they were designed with the customer in mind. Edwards researched what neck profiles, weight, etc. that Les Paul players thought of as the "best," and made that guitar.
