Hey y'all. Im in a little prediciment inside my brain. I love my micro cube...its a pretty good practice amp and i get some good cleans out of it. Anyway my band is starting to move up more and the microcube just isnt loud enough and doesnt cut it. So im looking for a new amp to use at smaller-medium size gigs. I have been considering getting a cube60x since i love the cube so much but on the other hand I think it may be worth it to move up to a tube amp.

my budget is at a max prolly $400 but i might be able to spread that up allitle bit...
I play blues and classic rock and i will be using a stock MIM strat through it.

Thanks
Gear.

tube better for tone, and modeling is better for versitility (usually).

and no, i've had a second hand peavey XXX for a few years now and haven't had any problems with it.

In this price range? Tube will def be better. You need to get into the higher end modeling hardware for them to equal tubes really.

Peavey Classics are built like tanks, they seem to last forever. Only thing is you would need to buy a tube tamer as they rattle in the classic series. That's an extra $25 I believe.

well im going to my local music store today and they carry peaveys so ill check it out and see if its there. Thanks

TS - what major city are you near? There are plenty of good amps for under $400 that can do classic rock to blues. As long as you aren't playing bro0t4lz that is.

the overdrive channel is a little lacking though, imo. even compared to the peavey. and the cleans are about even. so i still say go peavey.

traynor are also very good for that range of genres.

Enter "tube amp" in the musical instruments search bar. Then look for the amps suggested here. Look through the jaxed adds I posted, see if any are in NY.

FTR, I may be one of a few here on UG, but I'm really not a fan of the classic 30. IMO, there is a lot of noise on the gain channel and the tube rattle issue. But others love them so it's a preference thing.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/msg/1249159470.html Palomino V32, great rock and blues amp.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/msg/1247869122.html Here's the 50 wattr, still under $400.

Just my .02. Good luck.
