don't put EMG HZ, put real EMGs. the EMG HZ's would work, but they sound truly awful with dead strings.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

What do you mean by real EMGs? What's the different between EMG HZ pickups, and just EMG pickups?

HZ's are crap, but work well passive. by real EMG's I mean non HZ ones that would fit.

HZ is just the name of EMG's passive series of pickups.
And imho, they aren't very good ...

I'm interested in buying the Schecter Omen Extreme 5-String bass and I would like to put EMG's on it. The description says it has Active Electronics, so I need to know what kind of pickups are compatible with this bass.

Thanks.
Do some research.
Contact Schecter and ASK what kind of pickups are on it.
Pickup Description: Diamond Active

For all you know, those might be made by EMG with a Schecter logo on them.

Why on earth would you want to consider changing pickups before you even try them???

But you might be picking exactly the same thing you're taking off.

I might have to take that into consideration.

makes it work passive and cost less. it's like EMG's Squier.

and I'd actually play everything you can, Bartolini, Nordstrand, anything. and find out your beef with the stock pickups and follow up by getting a pickup that addresses those pickups.

On the Schecter website, some basses say EMG pickups, and others just say Diamond Active. If EMG provides pickups for the Diamond Active, why doesn't the website just say EMG Active?

Maybe Diamond Active is a premium grade. Maybe it's a lesser grade. Maybe it's made by SD. (like a Blackout)

Who knows? Wait ... I know who knows. Schecter knows!

Ask Schecter!

Schecter stock pickups do not impress me.

but then again, neither do EMG's.

if it was my decision, I would slap a pair of Bartolini's in there.

eh.

I'll sell you a Schecter Elite 5 for 400, if you're down for a few dings. comes with EMG HZ's, looks like this.

you get a better bass for cheaper
