The first stage of the Tour de France was today and Cancellara (time trial-specialist) is in the yellow jersey.

Any cycling fans?

Only Americans think it's about Lance. It's about Contador, Evans, Schleck, Menchov, Boonen etc.

Any fans? At all? Europeans?

This is gonna be an awesome tour, here are my picks for GC:
1. Contador
2. Sastre
3. Armstrong
4. Andy Schleck
5. Evans

And as of right now cycling is probably one of the cleaner sports due to the lack of a strong union that most other sports have^

Boonen shouldn't be in the tour. Quickstep should not have let him start.

Here we go again. My dad is a HUGE bicycle fan, he used to race when he was younger. This is all I'll be hearing about for the next while.

That's not the point. Drug use shouldn't be accepted at all during this fragile state of the sport.

I hope it's going to be a nice Tour this year, I missed most of it last year cause I was working I think this year's Tour is going to be very exciting until the very end, cause they have the Mont Ventoux up for stage 20. My guess is we won't know who'll win until then. It's going to be all or nothing in the Alps. My prediction for the top 5:

1. Alberto Contador
2. Cadel Evans (again)
3. Denis Menchov
4. Lance Armstrong
5. Andy Schleck

On the topic of Tom Boonen:

Personally, I think he should be banned by his team for doing coke, which he shouldn't have done, but that's no reason to keep him out of the tour, because technically, he didn't do anything wrong.

My top 5 would be:

1. Contador
2. A. Schleck
3. Carlos Sastre
4. Cadel Evans
5. Armstrong

Already after the first stage, I would say that Menchov doesn't stand a chance at the top 5. His time trail was hugely disappointing.

Sprint jersey: Cavendish, if he manages to complete the tour, which he hasn't been able to yet. If he forfeits, Thor Hushovd is my second favourite for the green jersey. He has a much better team around him than he has ever had.

White jersey
: Andy Schleck, with Kreuziger and Gessink fighting for the remaining two podium places.

Fastest Team
: Astana or Saxo Bank. I'm gonna say Astana this year.

Climbers jersey: Very open this year. Impossible to predict IMO.

Cant say I fancy cycling at all, I don't mind when someone falls off though.

Doing coke has nothing to do with Boonen´s career and as long as it doesn´t affect it, it shouldn´t matter. If he would be denied the Tour de France it would only be a fake 'cleaning of the sport' in a witch-hunt against real abusers.

I'm personally hoping for Menchov to pick up his game and Gesink to be the revelation, but that's my Dutch/Rabobank bias.

It'll be interesting seeing Boonen race against Cavendish.

In terms of his performances when he's on his bike, it probably doesn't affect him. It definitely doesn't give him an advantage.

But being a 'star' of the cycling sport, it sets a bad example to future riders. Especially since this the 4th time he's been busted.

Also, even though he did coke in between races and a t parties, I still think he's breaking the doping rules. You have to be doping free at ALL times.

Coke isn't doping. And it just shows every human has his flaws, society should not determine what he can or can not do with his own life. You can condemn it and say it's not a good example, sure, but you can't deny him the right to do what he's good at when he didn't break any rules.

its going to be good this year, i thing Cavendish will do pretty well in the points comp

If Andy Schleck does not win this year he definatly will next year, he is young and already very good. I really hope Cadel Evans wins he keeps getting 2nd he deserves the 1st place. But i think Contador or Sastre will crush the rest in the mountains.

Actually it is, as it is classified as a stimulant, which works directly on your central nervous system. It increases blood flow and heart rate and reduces fatigue.

I'm gonna be perfectly honest and say I only watch the tour because I wanna see Cadel Evans win for no other reason than the fact that he's Australian. Even so it has made me appreciate the sport a lot more as well, last year when Evans lost the yellow jersey after that hill climb at the end of a stage was pretty epic.

People were talking up his chances in the time trail but all credit to the guy who ended up winning the tour, he smashed it. It seemed as though he may have had a stronger team supporting him but like I said, don't know that much about the sport.

TDF is the kind of thing I put on in the background. Relaxed, simple to watch, you don't have to pay too much attention.

But when you do pay attention, you see that the (non drugged) cyclists are pretty incredible athletes.

Roche in the top 10! Its been a long time since theres bin an irish man in the line up even if it was only a stage. A predictable win fo Cavendich. dissapointed bout the crash it toned down the sprint

Another easy (and slightly lucky) win for Cavendish.

I want to see him go against Boonen and Freire.
