Alright, I heard there was something in the human brain that makes people think their singing is much better than it actually is. Does anyone know what, if anything, this is called?

To me, Jonas Brothers sound identical to Dragonforce. So I'm not sure what you've just proved.

At a guess I'd say it's the mere exposure effect, which states that repeated exposure to a stimulus in positive or neutral circumstances brings upon a positive attitude change. I.e. if you sing a lot, and are happy when you do it, you'll begin to like the sound of your voice more and more due to the positive circumstances in which it becomes associated with.

Record yourself singing and listen - you should sound much different to what your head hears while you do it.

I like my voice. I know what it sounds like... I just know there's a scientific term for people perceiving their voice as better than it actually is. I'm trying to find that term.

I hate my singing, I sound like Brent Hinds raping a cat. I can do pretty mean death vocals, though.

I despise my voice whether I hear it through my skull or through a recording.
But almost everyone I know thinks I have a great voice...

I think I suck at singing but everyone tells me my voice is powerful and I would be good if I was relaxed.

I was a terrible singer until I joined a choir.

Anybody can learn to sing. You simply need the proper training.

This, along with a will to practise and to listen to yourself properly rather than what you hear in your head. It takes time, but I learnt too and was originally an appalling singer.
Hey, look. Sigs are back.
