It's my cousin's 18th birthday party on friday. There will be family there and a load of his mates. I'm 16 and was wondering what I should wear. I was thinking a striped shirt (you know with a collar?), a pair of gray chinos, brown leather shoes and a paisley tie. Is this too formal? Or would dark jeans and a shirt and white trainers be better?

What do you think?

I did a google search and a UG search already by the way...

EDIT:
Here is a photo of me wearing what I suggested

Stick with that, just make it a bit more casual. Top two buttons undone, loosen up the tie.

Smart casual is the way to go.

Pooping is well good though, to be fair.

I know, I just realsed I sounded like a raging homosexual.

That's not what I was implying, as far as I'm concerned the only way to dress casual is to let it hang out fast and loose.

Jeans, shirt and trainers. Its an 18th, its not a formal occasion.

Ive had gay friends in the past, and even they would think twice about wearing that. Very very camp!

Are you going to an 18th bday or your grandfathers bday?

The latter based on your clothes choice methinks

I worn my Opeth shirt with Machine Head hoodie to my friend's 18th at a function center.

No one gave a ****

Nah dude, this is England - over here thats pretty standard smart/ smart casual.

Just loose the tie!
Or swap the shirt for a Polo shirt.

lose the tie imo.

If you can get away with it you might untuck the shirt but that's just a matter of taste i suppose.

That is a rather camp outfit, but it's still smart. Lovin' the chairs though!

On my birthdays - formal or not - I still wear metal band teeshirts and an opened black shirt over it. And jeans. No point in looking formal when you're going to spill booze over yourself eventually
