why do you want to take up bass in the first place? it's definitely not worth it if you have no good reason for taking up bass other than because someone will trade you one...

unless said bass is much more valuable then you can resell $.$

EDIT: how does it play? it's quite clearly vintage but is it vintage in a bad way?

Try getting some more details on the bass. I havent heard much of maestro basses.
find out if it has any serial numbers or anything. doing some research and trying it out would be the best things to do. There is a maestro which is the entry level for gibson. Dont kno if that guitar is from the same company. Ask the owner and see if he knows the history of the guitar.
