What's the best kind of amp(s) for heavy, loose riffs, basically the total opposite from mega tight sticatto stuff. Something similar, not by any means the same, as Thrice Firebreather sort of tone...?

Cheers!

Laney amps should be good for that, any old tube amp should do the trick, though.

Yeah tight is usually assoated with a british styled amp (aka marshal, vox, orange)

More "loose", although I would use the word smooth and round, is the american type amp.

Basicly your mesa's etc.
Anything with 6L6's really
American Strat:
Area 61 Neck, Area 67 Middle & Bridge
Spretzel Locking Tuners
Graphtech Nut & String Tree
Lots O' Love!

JSX + Orange Cab
Fender Blues Deluxe

The loosest amp I can think of is probably an old Mesa Single Rectifier, but I could be wrong.

You can also find amps that allow you to choose the voicing that you want. My Peavey Ultra Plus has a three-way switch that goes from Tight to Loose and it really changes the dynamic of the tone. I'm not saying you should buy a Ultra (though I do love mine) but that its simply something to consider.
Axes:
2010 Carvin ST300C
1994 Jackson Soloist XL Professional
2008 "Jacksbanez"
2007 Gibson Flying V
2003 Epiphone Les Paul Plus

Amps:
Peavey 6505+ Combo
Peavey Classic 30
Peavey Vypyr 15

I would describe the sound I get from my 2204 as being kind of loose so try one of those if you can get your hands on it. I find it looser than the 2203 anyway. Then you can tighten it up by throwing an OD pedal in front of it.
