When I try to do vibrato the normal way it seems weird and I can't really do it right so I started doing it my own way by putting my thumb on top of the neck and kind of using it as support.

I use it to make the vibrato stronger and it works and feels good so thats what I've always done.

Is this sorta like a bad habit or something?

If it works for you, then carry that **** on. How long have you been playing?

I changed my vibrato technique halfway through my years of playing because i could get a wider vibrato out of it. So its fine if it works for you.

If it works for you than use it, BUT don't limit yourself to that one way of doing vibrato. Keep practicing the other ways until you can vibrato no matter what position your hand is in.

about 6 and a half months now. I tried the normal vibrato in a week in didn't work out so I started doing it this way.

My vibrato sounds way better this way and is more comfortable to me so I'll just keep doing it this way.
