Ok so i just found out that someone close to me has it. I don't really understand it much, but i would like to be able to know how to respond to it. Recently they went through a bit of an episode and i don't feel i responded appropriately. I didn't actually know they suffered from it at the time, but it explains some things about the way they acted. Basically I just thought the person didn't wanna hang out/talk, and they said they didn't even realise they were doing it. So pit, does anyone know anything about depression? Or does any who have it want to talk about it? I need to be able to respond appropriately next time the issue arises.

They weren't just sad. They have been diagnosed with it. I didn't help the situation along with how I treated them.

Do they actually have it? Or are they emo?

I used to have it. If he has an "episode", as you call it, the important thing is don't make an active effort to cheer him up. When people tried it with me, it only pissed me off

Instead, I'd advise you to just be there. Make sure he knows you'll support him without seeming over-bearing. It's hard to get the balance right, though

This from a country who're trying to make up for being late for the last two world wars by being really early for the next one?

Just be there for him or her. I doubt there's anything you can do other than that.
