He actually does use a fair good amount of distortion. There was an interview where he stated he usually keeps his marshalls cranked to the max.

The person had a pretty good tone for the lick. Though on something like that, I couldn't tell if he was picking all of the notes, because when he slowed down he used hammer-ons. Eric picks all the notes of small runs like that, and switches to hammer-on and pull-offs on longer runs.
