Besides the obvious volume and physical dimension difference how are they different? Just wondering if its worth shelling out 200 more for the 212 instead of just getting a 112
#2
extra speaker in the 212.
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.
#3
212 is twice the speaker, twice the power tubes and almost twice as expensive to upgrade.

fuller sounding though and more headroom obviously.

Check out our Valveking thread. Do you need a new amp? What is your budget and music styles mostly?
#6
What do you mean 'your stuck with'?

Are you strictly going by what UGrs tell you? Can you go play some of these amps?

Here's what I'd do if you want serious help.

Budget?
Genres?
New or Used?
Home or Gig?
Closest City?
Current Gear?

Answer all of those please.

PS - the Valveking can do 4, 8 and 16 ohms too but that is not important right now.

I played the valveking at a low volume at the nearby GC. played for 5 minutes and i liked it, ive also played on the bandit on high volume and i also liked it. i know the carvin is good but after seeing it compared to the 80s carvins idk...

550 tops
Technical (Satriani, Vai), Metal ( metallica megadeth some deathmetal bands) blues (can buy a tubescreamer if the amp doesnt have sound bluesy on OD) clean with some mild effects.
Doesnt matter as long as its in good shape and doesnt make popping sounds or some other defect.
im in NYCso ive got access to Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens (dont like the bronx)

Current Gear

line 6 spider III 30 watt
digitech rp150
boss mt-2 (cant sell, it was a gift)
boss vt-1 (want to refrain from selling)
Ibanez RG3ex1
Ibanez Grx40
Ibanez 1988 540r mother of pearl
ibanez weeping demon wah

Cool.

Folks are pulling off some killer Satch, Vai and blues tones with their Valvekings. They are pretty versatile but for heavy stuff you may need more, even with an OD, EQ and upgrades. If you liked the VK at the store I can guarantee you it gets better with some upgrades and tweaks.

That said, what do you think you could raise your budget to if you sold the first 3 items on your list? Is there anything out of your RP150 that you 'have' to have? Like delay?

The B52, Valveking, Vypyrs, Bugera's, etc can get you there if you HAVE to have a new amp. Used amps are a better value imo and there should be tons of stuff for you too look thru on craigslist. Can I assume too for fun that your budget 'might' be $700 or so if you sold some stuff?

Hold please.

PS - a couple of UGrs just got that Carvin I think and I believe they ended up complaining about not enough gain. They are both in The NAD COllection Thread MK II if you can find them.

well ive got about 200-300 bday cash flowing in. ive got 50 right now. DEFINITELY selling the line 6 might get me 150. I can see the rp150 but idk its got alot of effects that I use all the time. so yeah tis a dilemma.

I can upgrade a vk with a vintage 30 and some fresh tubes if its an issue.

Ill have to talk to my father about selling the boss vt-1 because that thing can fetch 300-350.

I suppose I should wait and get all of my cash together so I know my absolute budget.
#11
im keeping the rp150 because its on ebay for 40 bucks or so. so yeah selling line 6 spider III 30 watt, is there still a market for those?
#12
Those Spiders are still good practice amps so yes there is a market. The economy being down is actually a good thing for an amp buyer with some cash.

I realize these 'might' be a bit over budget and may not do metal perfectly or blues perfectly but they were all listed recently in and around your area (I think) and they all deserve some consideration or test drive.

The 'blues' is the only thing that throws things off so depending on how much blues you play -.....depends. I have an RP250 that I kept for various reasons. I own a Valveking too. The other amps mentioned above are good too but the Windsor may need some help.

Happy Hunting!

*may or may not be close to where you live, but pop up regularly on craigslist. Also, keep in mind that just because it's on Clist doesn't mean it's bad. Maybe someone needs the money more or are upgrading themselves.

112 is 50w, 212 is 100w, the 112 has one speaker and the 212 has 2 speakers. Go for the 212 it's more of a beast.

with the 212 model you will have ALOT more headroom and more lowend with it, due to 2x12 speakers and 100 watts
Gear:
Mesa MK IV head
Mesa 4x12 cab(3)

MXR and Boss pedals
Sparow guitars
Peavey 5150 II modded

Unless you are playing huge gigs, you don't need the 212. The 112 is plenty loud. The 112 is better on your wallet and better on your back. The 212 needs to be cranked to the point of annoying your neighbors if you want to enjoy the tone of the amp.
