Anyone know of any Communist, Socialist, or Marxist artists? I hear some songs like "Eat the Rich" by Aerosmith, Krokus, and Motorhead that sound very Marxist to me. (The whole rise up and destroy the rich thing.) Anyone know of any more? Or maybe bands who have Leftists in them?

And yes... I am a Marxist. Please dont turn this thread into a political debate. Im too tired for that right now.

Any "GTFO COMMIE!" comments will be ignored.

I am somewhat of a Marxist myself. Marxism isn't communism, just for reference.

Anyway, along with this topic, Rush, RATM, a lot of 80s Thrash bands spoke out politically as leftists. I'd look through more, but I don't really want to go through the 300 some artists in my library right now.

Rammstein has some left sides...

I've always been a big Rammstein fan but Ive never really heard any Leftism in their lyrics. Other than the people who try to claim that "Links 2,3,4" (Left 2,3,4) is actually them announcing their political agenda (but some say they're fascists others say they're Commies, so...) I think its more about marching to the beat of your own drum. ie-

"They want my heart to be in the right place
But then I look down
There, it beats Left!

They want my heart to be in the right place
But then I look down
It beats there in the left breast
The jealous have not known it well."

really? Have you listened to 2112, Anthem, or The Trees?

I mean, Anthem was about the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand, potentially the most anti-marxist author ever.... and many people claim that The Trees is an allegory similar to "animal farm". If anything Rush were libertarians, rather than Marxists.

Yes, the belief that there are two types of people in the world, the poor and the rich. That the rich take advantage of the poor, using their labor for profit, etc. And the only way to move forward is for the poor to overthrow the rich.

This is just a short summary.

Any political ideology is horrible in practice, because humans are too easily corruptible to be given responsiblity for an entire mass of people.

I would call myself a social anarchist, but seeing as how that's not going to happen either, I'd call myself a socialist, because under the right circumstances it is a viable practice for equality and peace.

Anyway, The Clash is probably the most influential leftist band, IMO.

I simply do not understand how VERY famous bands can be marxists, they aren't RICH like many think, but by no means are they "working class people"

sykEDIT: I think I'll elaborate. Bands may be very well off but they arent rich.

EXAMPLE: 10 million dollars made by touring, minus tour costs (hotels for the whole crew and everyone, food costs, wages for the crew, limos and other transportation, advertising for the tour etc. etc.) lets say over the course of a full 12 month tour done in 3 months sessions, (3 months on the road, one week off, etc.) that'll rack up a fair bit, lets say, 2 million. Which leaves us with 8 million dollars, a certain percentage has to go to the record company, lets say another 3 million. 5 million split 5 ways is 1 million to every band member in a 5 peice band (2 guitarists, bassist, drummer, and vocals).

So from touring for one year they make 1 million from that.

Album sales: Bands acctually dont make much money off of those, usually record labels suck up about 75-90% of profits leaving the band to split 10-25% of all earnings.

TL;DR they make a fair amount of money, but aren't as rich as everyone thinks.

One could argue that all the governments who have claimed to be Communist havnt even come close to reaching Marxism, that is, a stateless society where there are no rich and no poor and the workers own the means of production rather than the rich.
So, we dont really know. But yes a Communist government hasnt worked in the past because their have always been dictators in power. Stalin was a paranoid idiot who killed more than Hitler. Chairman Mao of China and Kim Jong Il of N. Korea both really dont care about the people and are keeping the Communist label on to get support from other Communist countries. So get a communism with a good man at the helm and lets see.

I Disagree. They follow an extremely leftist political and economic ideology. You can hear it in their early albums like How to Clean Everything (which was my favorite, by the way).

And according to Wikipedia they are all very active vegan Anarchists.
