Ok this may be a stupid question, but......
I'm getting an Egnater Rebel 20 head, which has 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker outs. I'm buying a cab from Avatar and I have the option to make it an 8 or 16 ohm cab.
My question is, would there be a difference if I went for either the 8 or 16 ohm cab?
It doesn't cost any more money either way, I'm just wondering if there will be a difference in volume, sound quality, etc.

Thanks UG

I don't think there will be a differance in sound or volume.

So I can just go with whatever one I want??? It won't matter at all?

As long as the cab and damp match impedances, it'll work. I've heard that some people prefer running the amp at 16 ohms and they claim that it sounds best like that. Also, some 16 om speakers can be a couple decibels louder than their 8 ohm counterparts, but not enough to matter.

So I guess I'll just get the 16 ohm version then????

For a small wattage head like that, I would definitely go with a 16 ohm cab.

Yeah. That way if you decide to add another cab, you'll be able to cut the ohms in half and have some wiggle room.

some people will tell you that since 16 ohms uses more OT windings that you get a beefier, thicker tone.

don't know if it's actually true and you can hear an audible difference, but I just go ahead and use 16 ohms.

isn't much of a tone difference. I'd go 16 because you're using the whole output transformer then, not just half of it...probably less stressful on the transformer because of better heat distribution, etc...
