I don't know what this little technique is called, but I wish I knew how to do i t.

Yup. You can do it with a normal floating tremolo even though that's not recommended.

yeah, some kind of floating bridge is key here. here's what he's doing: depressing the whammy bar a little before striking the note. he then hits a pinch harmonic on an open string, then using his left hand, raises the note sharp, and then dives it back down.

disclaimer: that may not be exactly what he does, but whenever i try it, that seems to work best.

In a different video, I saw someone performing this trick without a floyd rose.
