I've finally made the jump from bass to guitar, and after playing many guitars, I finally know what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a guitar for about $300-400, new or used. What I'm looking for is a guitar with an SSH or SH pickup configuration with pickup selection, in an alder or mahogany body, with a fixed bridge. I'll mostly be using this guitar to play and record punk, indie, and experimental songs, and I am fine with any body shape, excluding the more radical shapes (V, Explorer, Warlock, etc.)

Any help you could give would be hugely appreciated!

That was actually my first thought, but they're very hard to find.

Oh, well honestly that would probably the best possible choice for what you want to play. It might be worth it to wait it out.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.
